Have you ever wanted to take an African drum class, but felt just a little bit intimidated? Well now is your chance to learn about the vibrant poly-rhythms of Guinea, West Africa in a non-threatening atmosphere that is fun, encouraging and inspirational! Join Alseny Yansane, dynamic teacher and fourteen year performing artist with world renowned Ballets Africains of Guinea as he offers drum classes and workshops.

Alseny starts his class with a series of warm up exercises and interactive games that help students improve their sound quality and speed while preparing the body for learning traditional poly-rhythms from Guinea, their cultural significance and contemporary function. Students will learn proper hand position, clarity of notes and sound projection as well as all of the various hand drum parts and the starting and stopping signals and musical arrangements that are unique to the particular rhythm being taught.

Traditional, handmade instruments can be provided, call 541.232.5471 in advance to reserve a drum. Additionally, quality handmade drums are available for purchase, traditionally made and hand tuned by Alseny himself.
